Sound

In our performance we used three microphones to create the sound the audience would hear during the performance. We used three because one microphone would be heard in the left ear, the other in the right ear and the third would be heard in both. We wanted to create a sense of being immersed within the sounds and the feeling that they were surrounded.

This is an example of technology called binaural technology. It is used to create 3D sounds and the listener is able to detect where the sound is taking place and how far away it is. We used inspiration from this video to try to recreate some of the experiences felt within this video. As our microphones were placed further away from each other it didn’t quite have the same effect but if I were to try this method of performing again I would aim to develop the idea of binaural technology more.

It was important to us to not use too many sounds within our performance. We didn’t want to use so many sounds that we would alienate the audience. We wanted them to be able to pick out each individual sound and relate to it. In rehearsals we found that some of the story’s did contain too much sound so we edited them in order for them to have the effect we wanted.
